urbanRESET NYC
The reset of an existing warehouse of the 1920s into a public cultural institution is the first part of the new city development of the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Instead of a new building, the prominence and recognition of Building77 are used. Furthermore the warehouse is an important element in the urban development as it shows the shift from an industrial area to a creative neighborhood.
OBJECTIVE is:
to define a RESET STRATEGY, which filters out the qualities of the warehouse and respectfully engages the building,
specify a USE that broaches with the ratio of public and private space in the city theme, and proposes a new approach to its distribution,
create INTERFACES between building and city on several levels with which the conflict to the insulating solitaire can be resolved,
and to develop a METASYSTEM which is appropriate to the scale of the building and supports it‘s organization of space.
